Buyers can be picky in current market

For sellers trying to offload their homes in today’s sluggish real estate market, the smallest imperfection can be a deal breaker. Bent window blinds. Pet odor. Dead bushes.

“The buyers we’re working with right now are very picky because they can be,” Valley real estate agent Jay Thompson said.

More selling tips

• Change expectations. You probably won’t sell your home right away or make the same profit you might have six months ago.

• Fix minor problems, such as torn window screens, squeaky doors and dripping faucets.

• Consider offering a home warranty, which can make older homes more attractive to buyers.

• Offer other incentives, such as paying closing costs or pre-paying a year’s worth of homeowner association fees.
